Natural and sustainable materials used
Getting a good night’s sleep is very important and the bedding that you use can make a big difference on whether you achieve this or not. Natural products are breathable and temperature regulating, i.e. keep you warm when you are cold and dissipate heat during the warmer months. They are more efficient at doing this than bedding containing synthetic fibres.
All of our natural bedding products, such as our wool duvets, are ethically and responsibly sourced and are 100% sustainable. We aim to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible and are constantly seeking ways in which we can improve on this.
Below you will find some information on the products that we use to handcraft our bedding for you:
Certified 100% British Wool:
Wool has been used for millennia as a source of natural and sustainable fibre for clothing and bedding. It is 100% natural and 100% sustainable. For our wool duvets, mattress toppers and pillows, we only use wool from British farmers who have the highest standards of animal husbandry and welfare, shearing from live sheep in Spring and Summer when the sheep naturally need to lose their heavy fleeces.
Our wool is traceable and certified by British Wool.
We select only high grades of certified 100% British wool for our wool bedding and are proud to support the British milling industry by having it cleaned (known as ‘scouring’) in British mills without the use of chemicals or bleaches. The wool is then needled into layers, according to our specifications, to create loft and a superior drape. Our wool duvets, wool pillows and wool mattress toppers are individually handcrafted by our expert seamstresses, who encase the wool in 100% natural cotton, without the use of synthetic layers, glues or binding agents, before being packed into reusable packaging.
Wool is breathable and temperature regulating, so keeps you warm when it’s cold but also able to radiate heat away from your body if you get too hot. It is also naturally resistant to dust mites and the build-up of micro bacteria and so is the perfect choice for those who suffer from asthma or other allergies. Our wool bedding has a low carbon footprint because we use certified 100% British wool, cleaned in British mills with the end product made here in Devon. Naturally biodegradable your wool bedding won’t clog up landfill for decades when it comes to replacing it.
Alpaca wool is known throughout the world for its luxurious, fine fibres. Each fibre has large hollow spaces that gives it a high thermal capability and very efficient temperature regulating properties. It also has minimal lanolin content. Our Limited Edition Alpaca wool duvets are made using 100% British alaca wool, approved by the British Alpaca Society.
We choose only high grades of natural pure white alpaca wool, which is cleaned without the use of chemicals or bleaches in British mills. It is then needled into a gorgeously soft alpaca wool layer, which our seamstresses encase into a 260 thread count 100% cotton casing. The end result is a light duvet with a beautiful drape. As with our wool duvets, we do not use bonding agents, glues or synthetic layers, so your alpaca duvet is 100% natural, 100% eco-friendly and 100% sustainable. Alpaca wool is breathable and temperature regulating, as well as being dust mite resistant, so is hypoallergenic.
Our plant-based Botanic duvets are an alternative option to our wool and alpaca wool products. These contain TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres, which are made from sustainable, FSC wood sources, using an Eco award-winning process, pioneered by Austrian company Lenzing. Both the filling and the casing for our Botanic duvets are made from these fibres, which are fully traceable. The fibres for the filling are needled to our exacting specifications to create a fibre that is cloud like and beautifully soft.
100% natural and 100% sustainable, as well as being vegan-friendly, our Botanic duvets are the only product of their kind registered by The Vegan Society. TENCEL™ Lyocell has excellent moisture wicking properties and it does not take on odours, which has also made it a popular fibre for sports clothing. As with our wool duvets, each Botanic duvet is individually handcrafted in our Devon workshops by our time served seamstresses, without the use of synthetic layers, glues or bonding agents, before being packed into reusable packaging.
Naturally breathable and temperature regulating, our Botanic duvets have excellent moisture wicking properties. Botanic duvets are naturally biodegradable so when the time comes to replace your duvet, it won’t be sitting in landfill for years to come.
