PLATINUM CERTIFIED 100% BRITISH WOOL
Not only is our wool all British, cleaned and processed in England without the use of bleach or chemical treatments, we use only the best British Platinum Grade Wool and each batch of wool is checked and certified as such by the British Wool Marketing Board.
Why use Platinum Grade Wool?
Whilst the normal Shepherds Crook Mark allocated by the British Wool Marketing Board guarantees that at least 50% of the wool used is British and at least 75% of the materials used are natural, the Platinum Wool Mark guarantees that only 100% British Wool is used in our woollen products. There is no wool used from abroad, no scrap wool and no artificial fibres, glues or bonding agents.
You can be assured that ONLY Platinum Grade British Wool is used in ALL of our wool duvets, wool pillows and wool mattress toppers and this is GUARANTEED, not only by us but also by the British Wool Marketing Board.
SOIL ASSOCIATION CERTIFICATION
Whilst our Classic Collection is very natural and our British Wool not bleached or chemically treated, we decided to take one step further to support organic farming, nature and the environment by introducing an Organic Collection fully certified by the Soil Association to Global Organic Trading Standards (GOTS). We are the only duvet company to have achieved this certification from the Soil Association to produce a true Organic finished product. Licence Number DK 20962. Therefore as a Company we are licensed to produce GOTS certified products, a license that is recognised worldwide.
The standards required by the Soil Association are rightfully very strict and to achieve a license for a finished product (not just a component of a product) requires a great deal of effort. Every step of the process is regulated, not just the wool and cotton; the wool mills used, the thread used for stitching, the zips we use, the cleanliness of our workshops, transportation, packaging, the oil in our machines, the transportation we use, even interviewing our staff and checking their salaries/overtime and reviewing our health, safety and welfare standards - all very important aspects and ones we strongly support and adhere to. We are proud to have achieved this license in all of the processes for producing our products and these standards are applied to every aspect of our business, not just for our GOTS certified products.
All of the standards achieved are applied to ALL of our products, not just the ones where we use certified organic wool and cotton so you can be assured that every product produced by Devon Duvets achieves a high standard of quality, cleanliness and ethics.
Regretfully, the local mill that was licensed to GOTS standards to needle our wool has gone into liquidation and therefore this link in the whole process is broken. This means that we cannot in the true spirit of honesty call our products fully organically GOTS certified at this time and would not wish to do so, despite the fact that the products in our Classic Collection are possibly as organic as you will find. Once we have establlished a procedure with a licensed mill, we will be able to produce an honest licensed GOTS organic collection again.
All wool duvets, wool pillows and wool pillows in all of our Collections are handcrafted by the same professional seamstresses in Devon, England, creating luxurious and honest yet sustainable products especially for you.
