How Each Product Is Made
Different products, different purposes, the same care
At Devon Duvets, every wool duvet, pillow and mattress topper is individually handcrafted in our Devon workshop.
Although each product begins with the same core materials — traceable British wool and cotton chosen with care — each one has a different purpose. A duvet needs loft and drape. A pillow needs comfort and support. A mattress topper needs softness, structure and the ability to settle naturally onto the bed.
That is why we do not make every product in the same way. Each one is made according to the role it plays in helping you rest.
How our wool duvets are made
A wool duvet is designed to cover the body, helping to create a comfortable and breathable sleep environment.
To make each duvet, our cotton casing is cut to the correct size before the wool is carefully placed. The wool needs to lie evenly, with enough space to keep its natural loft and softness. It is then secured so that it stays in place, while still allowing the duvet to feel flexible, breathable and naturally draping.
We use just enough stitching through the body of the duvet to hold the wool securely, without overworking it or making the duvet feel flat. This helps the cotton and wool work together, creating a duvet that feels comforting without feeling stiff or heavy.
Other duvets we make, Botanic and Alpaca are made in exactly the same way, using the amount of stitching that works with the materials.
Each duvet is then finished, checked and prepared for packing before it leaves our workshop.
How our wool pillows are made
A pillow has a very different role from a duvet. It needs to support the head and neck, while still feeling comfortable and breathable close to the face.
Our wool pillows are made using traceable British wool inside a cotton casing. Because pillows are personal, we offer different styles to suit different needs.
Our adjustable wool pillow is designed so that wool filling can be removed, allowing you to personalise the height and feel of the pillow. This can be helpful if you prefer a lower pillow, need a little less fullness, or want to adjust the support over time.
Our folding pillows are made to offer flexibility in a different way. They can be folded or shaped to create extra support where it is needed, making them a practical choice for those who like to adapt their pillow position.
Whichever style you choose, the aim is the same: natural support, breathable comfort and a pillow that suits the way you sleep.
How our wool mattress toppers are made
A mattress topper sits beneath the body, so it needs to offer a different kind of comfort.
Our wool mattress toppers are made to add a natural layer of softness and breathability to the bed. The cotton casing is made to the correct size, and the wool is carefully placed and secured inside so that the topper can relax naturally onto the mattress.
A good wool topper should not feel rigid. It should have enough structure to stay in place, but enough softness and give to create a comfortable layer beneath you.
This can help soften a mattress that feels too firm, refresh a bed that still has life in it and add an extra layer of natural comfort.
Once made, each topper is finished and checked by hand before it leaves our workshop.
