How to Care for Your Devon Duvets Pet Bed
Keeping your pet’s wool bed fresh and comfortable
Your Devon Duvets Pet Bed has been handcrafted using natural wool and a soft fleece outer, creating a comfortable place for your pet to rest.
Although the cream fleece may look delicate at first, wool is a practical natural fibre. It is breathable, helps manage moisture and can help reduce odour build-up when aired regularly.
As with all natural bedding, the best care is gentle, regular care.
Air the bed regularly
The simplest way to keep your pet bed fresh is to air it often.
Remove the wool filling from the casing and allow both parts to air separately. On a dry day, this can be done outside in a shaded or lightly aired spot. If the weather is damp, air indoors in a warm, well-ventilated space.
Regular airing helps the wool breathe and keeps the bed feeling fresher for longer.
Shake or brush off dry dirt
Pets do not always come in clean, especially after walks, garden time or wet weather.
If the bed becomes muddy, allow the mud to dry first where possible. Once dry, loose dirt can often be shaken or gently brushed away from the fleece before washing is needed.
This can help reduce unnecessary washing and protect the natural fibres over time.
Washing the fleece casing
Before washing, remove the wool filling and air it separately.
The fleece casing can be machine washed on a 30°C wool cycle using a wool-specific detergent. Do not use ordinary laundry detergent, biological detergent, fabric conditioner or bleach.
Use a gentle spin to remove excess water, then remove the casing from the machine as soon as the programme has finished. Do not leave it sitting damp in the drum.
Gently reshape the casing while damp and allow it to air dry naturally.
Drying the casing
Air dry the casing either outside on a line in suitable weather or indoors over a clothes airer in a warm, well-ventilated room.
Make sure the casing is completely dry before replacing the wool filling.
Do not tumble dry.
Do not place directly on a radiator.
Do not use high heat.
Heat can shrink or damage natural fibres and may affect the shape and feel of the bed.
Caring for the wool filling
The wool filling should not be machine washed.
To refresh it, remove it from the casing and air it thoroughly. You can gently shake and loosen the wool by hand to help it regain freshness and comfort.
If the wool becomes wet, allow it to dry completely in a warm, airy place before putting it back inside the casing.
Never replace the wool filling while either the wool or casing is damp.
