WHY WE DON'T USE CHEMICALS

At Devon Duvets, we've been committed to making natural and sustainable soft bedding products for over 17 years. This committment began before we made a single duvet and was part and parcel of our thorough research into responsible sourcing and sustainable manufacture.

We believe it is important to protect our planet by being as careful as possible with all our processes and it goes without out saying that the more natural a product is, then the better it will be for you and the quality of your sleep! Because this is so important to us, we voluntarily undergo ethical auditing with SEDEX so that we can be sure we are always looking for more ways to be as sustainable as possible.

  • For our British wool bedding range and our Alpaca range, we only ever use traceable 100% British wool and 100% British alpaca from farms we know adhere to the highest standards of animal welfare. Once gathered in, the wool or alpaca is washed in traditional British mills, without the use of chemicals. We only use natural white fleeces from sheep and alpacas so that we do not need to bleach it. Any wool or alpaca duvet that is labelled as washable at high temperatures or is able to be tumbled dried has been treated with chemical coatings to allow this. As well as being detrimental to the environment, chemical treatments alter the structure of wool and alpaca fibres, which can lessen the effectiveness of their properties of temperature regulation.
  • Our 100% plant-based Botanic range is made with fibres containing TENCEL™Lyocell, which is made from sustainable wood sources and turned into a soft, fluffy filling through an eco award-winning process.
  • The 100% plain cotton fabric we use for our duvets, pillows and mattress protectors is woven to our strict specifications, using cotton fibres that have been certified by Better Cotton. This global initiative supports better eco-friendly and socio-economic cotton farming practices. The flannel (brushed cotton) that we use for our plump mattress toppers has been woven in a mill with OKEO-TEX® certification, which means the mill does not use chemicals in its processes.
