Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between this lightweight duvet and your medium weight version?

Our lightweight wool duvet contains 300gsm of British wool, giving an approximate tog of 4–7. It’s ideal for warmer months or for those who sleep hot. The medium weight version contains 600gsm of wool and offers more insulation, with an approximate tog of 8–14.

Will this duvet keep me warm enough in winter?

If your home is well-insulated or you naturally sleep warm, many customers find the lightweight duvet comfortable all year round. You can also pair it with a second lightweight duvet using the built-in ties for added warmth during colder months.

Can I wash the duvet at home?

Yes, it’s machine washable on a wool cycle at 30°C using a wool-safe detergent. Gently spin, reshape, and air dry. A larger capacity machine is recommended for bigger sizes like Super King and Emperor. Do not tumble dry or dry clean.

Is this duvet suitable for allergy sufferers?

Yes. Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites and micro-bacteria. Our duvets contain no chemicals or synthetic fibres, making them a great choice for those with asthma or skin sensitivities.

What makes your wool traceable?

We only use wool certified by British Wool, which ensures it’s fully traceable from farm to duvet. All wool is responsibly sourced from UK farms where sheep are treated with care and respect.

What’s the thread count of the cotton casing?

Our cotton casing is a 260 thread count fabric, woven especially to our specifications to ensure the duvet has a soft drape and optimal breathability. It also supports the Better Cotton Initiative.

How long will my duvet last?

With proper care, your duvet will last for years. Each one is handcrafted to the highest standards in our Devon workshops and comes with a 5-year maker’s guarantee.

Please note that the care instructions vary, depending on your duvet type. Please be sure to use the correct instructions for your duvet.

Caring for your 100% British Wool or 100% British Alpaca Duvet

Wool and alpaca fibres have a natural resistance to dust mites and bacteria, so your wool/alpaca duvet doesn’t need frequent washing. We recommend regular airing and this helps to keep the wool/alpaca nice and fresh. This can be done outside (if the weather is dry), or draped over a clothes airer, near an open window so that air can get right round your duvet.

Should a deeper clean be required, our wool and our alpaca duvets are machine washable - and it helps to think of them as a big woolly jumper! Machine wash in a large capacity machine (so the duvet has plenty of room to move around inside) on a 30 degrees wool cycle, and using a detergent that is specifically created for wool. A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and thoroughly air dry. Do not tumble dry. We do not recommend dry cleaning as this process uses chemicals. You can find more information on caring for your duvet here.

If you need to store your duvet at any point, it is best to roll it up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in. Make sure it is stored in a dry place, away from humidity and damp. We would recommend re-airing before you use it again.

Caring for your Botanic (100% plant-based) duvet

Your Botanic duvet is made from a 100% plant based fibres containing TENCEL™Lyocell, derived from sustainable wood sources. These fibres have a resistance to dust mites and so your Botanic duvet does not require frequent washing. We do, however, recommend regular airing as this helps to keep your Botanic duvet fresh. This is best done outside if the weather is dry, or inside over an airer near an open window if the weather is damp.

For a deeper clean, your Botanic duvet can be machine washed in a large capacity machine, on a 30 degrees delicates cycle and using a gentle detergent (it is best to avoid 'biological' detergents as these can be harsh). A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and air dry. Our Botanic duvets can be tumble dried on the lowest setting and we recommend reshaping during this process.  We do not recommend dry cleaning, due to the chemicals used in this process.

For storing, roll up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in, ensuring it is stored in a dry place away from humidity and damp. Re-air before using again.
