Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Medium Weight Alpaca Duvet designed for?

This 400gsm duvet is a popular choice for those who enjoy a cosy and snug sleep environment. It’s ideal for cooler spring and autumn nights, as well as for people who prefer a lighter cover in winter. If you’re a hot sleeper or need something for summer, our Lightweight Alpaca Duvet may be a better fit.

What tog rating does this duvet have?

The Medium Weight Alpaca Duvet has an approximate tog equivalent of 7–10. This makes it versatile for year-round use in temperate climates or for those who like to feel gently cocooned without overheating.

Why is this duvet Limited Edition?

Alpaca fleece is only available in small quantities each year, depending on the natural yield from British alpaca farms. That’s why every alpaca duvet we make is part of a limited production run. Each one is handcrafted in Devon, making it a truly special product to own.

Is alpaca wool sustainable?

Yes. Our duvets are filled with 100% British alpaca fleece, endorsed by the British Alpaca Society and fully traceable. Alpacas are shorn once a year for their comfort and welfare, and the fleece is cleaned without chemicals or bleach. The cotton casing is sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative, making this duvet a sustainable and biodegradable choice.

What makes alpaca different to other natural fillings?

Alpaca fleece is silky, light and soft, with excellent insulating properties. Unlike some heavier fillings, it drapes gently across the body, offering warmth without heaviness. It’s a luxurious, natural alternative that provides comfort and breathability in every season.

How should I care for this duvet?

Air your duvet regularly to keep it fresh. For washing, use a wool cycle at 30ºC with a wool-safe detergent or hand wash gently. Spin lightly, reshape while damp and air dry naturally. Do not tumble dry, bleach or dry clean. With the right care, your alpaca duvet will provide years of comfort.

Please note that the care instructions vary, depending on your duvet type. Please be sure to use the correct instructions for your duvet.

Caring for your 100% British Wool or 100% British Alpaca Duvet

Wool and alpaca fibres have a natural resistance to dust mites and bacteria, so your wool/alpaca duvet doesn’t need frequent washing. We recommend regular airing and this helps to keep the wool/alpaca nice and fresh. This can be done outside (if the weather is dry), or draped over a clothes airer, near an open window so that air can get right round your duvet.

Should a deeper clean be required, our wool and our alpaca duvets are machine washable - and it helps to think of them as a big woolly jumper! Machine wash in a large capacity machine (so the duvet has plenty of room to move around inside) on a 30 degrees wool cycle, and using a detergent that is specifically created for wool. A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and thoroughly air dry. Do not tumble dry. We do not recommend dry cleaning as this process uses chemicals. You can find more information on caring for your duvet here.

If you need to store your duvet at any point, it is best to roll it up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in. Make sure it is stored in a dry place, away from humidity and damp. We would recommend re-airing before you use it again.

Caring for your Botanic (100% plant-based) duvet

Your Botanic duvet is made from a 100% plant based fibres containing TENCEL™Lyocell, derived from sustainable wood sources. These fibres have a resistance to dust mites and so your Botanic duvet does not require frequent washing. We do, however, recommend regular airing as this helps to keep your Botanic duvet fresh. This is best done outside if the weather is dry, or inside over an airer near an open window if the weather is damp.

For a deeper clean, your Botanic duvet can be machine washed in a large capacity machine, on a 30 degrees delicates cycle and using a gentle detergent (it is best to avoid 'biological' detergents as these can be harsh). A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and air dry. Our Botanic duvets can be tumble dried on the lowest setting and we recommend reshaping during this process.  We do not recommend dry cleaning, due to the chemicals used in this process.

For storing, roll up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in, ensuring it is stored in a dry place away from humidity and damp. Re-air before using again.
