Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Botanic Ultralight Duvet different from other duvets?

The Botanic Ultralight is a 100% vegan duvet filled with TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres, made from certified sustainable wood sources. It has been recognised as one of the Best Lightweight Duvets by IndyBest, thanks to its breathable comfort, soft drape and eco-friendly design. Handcrafted in Devon, it’s a natural alternative to synthetic summer duvets.

Is this vegan duvet suitable all year round?

The Ultralight (approx TOG 2–4) is perfect for summer or for hot sleepers all year round. If you’d like a little more warmth, our Botanic Lightweight Duvet (TOG 4–6) or our Botanic Medium Weight Duvet (TOG 6–8) are excellent alternatives for cooler nights.

What is TENCEL™ Lyocell and why is it used in these duvets?

TENCEL™ Lyocell is a plant-based fibre made from wood pulp sourced from certified sustainable forests. It is processed using an eco award-winning closed-loop system, making it one of the most sustainable fibres available. Soft, breathable and naturally temperature regulating, it’s the perfect filling for a luxury vegan duvet.

Is this duvet sustainable and biodegradable?

Yes. Every Botanic duvet is filled with 100% natural plant-based fibres that are fully biodegradable. The cotton casing is sourced under the Better Cotton Initiative, supporting responsible farming worldwide. Combined with reusable packaging and local craftsmanship in Devon, this duvet offers sustainability from start to finish.

How do I wash and care for a Botanic Ultralight Duvet?

The Botanic Ultralight is easy to care for. Simply machine wash on a gentle 30ºC cycle with mild detergent. Spin to remove excess water and air dry naturally. You can also tumble dry on a low setting if required. With proper care, your duvet will keep its softness and loft for years.

Why choose a vegan duvet over traditional fillings?

A vegan duvet made with TENCEL™ Lyocell is a great choice if you’re looking for a natural, ethical alternative to animal fibres or synthetic fillings. It’s breathable, lightweight, chemical-free and kind to the planet. Choosing a vegan duvet means you can enjoy luxury comfort while supporting sustainable and cruelty-free bedding.

Please note that the care instructions vary, depending on your duvet type. Please be sure to use the correct instructions for your duvet.

Caring for your 100% British Wool or 100% British Alpaca Duvet

Wool and alpaca fibres have a natural resistance to dust mites and bacteria, so your wool/alpaca duvet doesn’t need frequent washing. We recommend regular airing and this helps to keep the wool/alpaca nice and fresh. This can be done outside (if the weather is dry), or draped over a clothes airer, near an open window so that air can get right round your duvet.

Should a deeper clean be required, our wool and our alpaca duvets are machine washable - and it helps to think of them as a big woolly jumper! Machine wash in a large capacity machine (so the duvet has plenty of room to move around inside) on a 30 degrees wool cycle, and using a detergent that is specifically created for wool. A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and thoroughly air dry. Do not tumble dry. We do not recommend dry cleaning as this process uses chemicals. You can find more information on caring for your duvet here.

If you need to store your duvet at any point, it is best to roll it up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in. Make sure it is stored in a dry place, away from humidity and damp. We would recommend re-airing before you use it again.

Caring for your Botanic (100% plant-based) duvet

Your Botanic duvet is made from a 100% plant based fibres containing TENCEL™Lyocell, derived from sustainable wood sources. These fibres have a resistance to dust mites and so your Botanic duvet does not require frequent washing. We do, however, recommend regular airing as this helps to keep your Botanic duvet fresh. This is best done outside if the weather is dry, or inside over an airer near an open window if the weather is damp.

For a deeper clean, your Botanic duvet can be machine washed in a large capacity machine, on a 30 degrees delicates cycle and using a gentle detergent (it is best to avoid 'biological' detergents as these can be harsh). A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and air dry. Our Botanic duvets can be tumble dried on the lowest setting and we recommend reshaping during this process.  We do not recommend dry cleaning, due to the chemicals used in this process.

For storing, roll up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in, ensuring it is stored in a dry place away from humidity and damp. Re-air before using again.
