British Wool Duvet – Medium Weight 600gsm

Our handcrafted Medium Weight British Wool Duvet is made in Devon using 100% certified British wool. With a 600gsm fill, this duvet provides the perfect balance of warmth and breathability – keeping you cosy in autumn and winter, yet cool enough to prevent overheating. Encased in luxuriously soft 260 thread count cotton, it delivers year-round comfort for a truly restful, natural night’s sleep.

Why Choose This Duvet?

This duvet is ideal for those who feel the cold or who prefer a versatile, medium weight cover for cooler months. Wool naturally regulates temperature and wicks away moisture, helping to combat night sweats. Each duvet is individually handcrafted by our skilled seamstresses in Devon, with minimal stitching for a smooth drape and no clumping.

Weight & Tog Guide

Each duvet includes ties, allowing you to combine two of the same size for extra warmth if desired.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tog rating should I choose for winter warmth?

For winter, most people prefer a tog of 10.5 or higher. Our medium weight wool duvet (600gsm) offers an approximate tog of 8–14, giving plenty of insulation for cooler months, while still allowing your body to breathe naturally.

How do I care for a wool duvet so it lasts?

Air regularly to refresh and maintain loft. Machine wash on a cold wool cycle (30 °C) with a wool-safe detergent. Use a gentle spin, reshape while damp, and air-dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying or dry cleaning to protect the natural fibres.

Are natural fibres like wool better than synthetic ones?

Yes. Wool is breathable, moisture-wicking, resistant to dust mites, and biodegradable. Synthetic fibres are often cheaper but can trap heat and lack the same natural temperature regulation. That’s why wool duvets are regularly highlighted as the best choice for comfort and sustainability.

I sleep hot — will a wool duvet make me overheat?

Not at all. Wool naturally regulates body temperature by releasing excess heat and wicking away moisture. If you sleep hot, our Lightweight Wool Duvets (300gsm) are ideal, and you can always add a second section in winter for extra warmth.

How durable are your duvets and do they come with a guarantee?

Yes. Each duvet is individually handcrafted in Devon and built to last. With proper care, wool duvets often outlast synthetic alternatives. Every duvet comes with our 5-Year Makers Guarantee for peace of mind.

Have your wool duvets won any awards?

Yes – our duvets have been recognised in multiple national reviews. We’ve been listed for several years in The Independent’s IndyBest guides, including “Best Winter Duvet”, thanks to their natural warmth, high quality and sustainable materials.

Is British wool really traceable and sustainable?

Absolutely. We only use wool certified by British Wool, ensuring it is fully traceable from farm to duvet. Our wool is shorn in the traditional way, our cotton casing supports the Better Cotton Initiative, and every product is biodegradable at end of life.

Please note that the care instructions vary, depending on your duvet type. Please be sure to use the correct instructions for your duvet.

Caring for your 100% British Wool or 100% British Alpaca Duvet

Wool and alpaca fibres have a natural resistance to dust mites and bacteria, so your wool/alpaca duvet doesn’t need frequent washing. We recommend regular airing and this helps to keep the wool/alpaca nice and fresh. This can be done outside (if the weather is dry), or draped over a clothes airer, near an open window so that air can get right round your duvet.

Should a deeper clean be required, our wool and our alpaca duvets are machine washable - and it helps to think of them as a big woolly jumper! Machine wash in a large capacity machine (so the duvet has plenty of room to move around inside) on a 30 degrees wool cycle, and using a detergent that is specifically created for wool. A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and thoroughly air dry. Do not tumble dry. We do not recommend dry cleaning as this process uses chemicals. You can find more information on caring for your duvet here.

If you need to store your duvet at any point, it is best to roll it up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in. Make sure it is stored in a dry place, away from humidity and damp. We would recommend re-airing before you use it again.

Caring for your Botanic (100% plant-based) duvet

Your Botanic duvet is made from a 100% plant based fibres containing TENCEL™Lyocell, derived from sustainable wood sources. These fibres have a resistance to dust mites and so your Botanic duvet does not require frequent washing. We do, however, recommend regular airing as this helps to keep your Botanic duvet fresh. This is best done outside if the weather is dry, or inside over an airer near an open window if the weather is damp.

For a deeper clean, your Botanic duvet can be machine washed in a large capacity machine, on a 30 degrees delicates cycle and using a gentle detergent (it is best to avoid 'biological' detergents as these can be harsh). A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and air dry. Our Botanic duvets can be tumble dried on the lowest setting and we recommend reshaping during this process.  We do not recommend dry cleaning, due to the chemicals used in this process.

For storing, roll up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in, ensuring it is stored in a dry place away from humidity and damp. Re-air before using again.
