Our co-founders and co-owners, Dick and Pauline, were especially delighted to meet HRH The Princess Royal at a recent event held by British Wool at their South Molton depot in Devon. The event was being held as part of the 75th Anniversary celebrations by British Wool, the organisation that champions the beautiful wool that comes from our hard-working farmers and their flocks.

British Wool and Devon Duvets share a long-held commitment to British famers, with Devon Duvets having pioneered the UK’s very first individually handcrafted 100% British wool duvet, nearly two decades ago. During her visit, HRH The Princess Royal was interested to see some of our award-winning, individually handcrafted 100% British wool products, and was also impressed by the quality, and that each product is made here by our seamstresses in Devon. She expressed her interest further in learning that we do not use chemicals in the processing of our wool, so that it remains as natural as nature intended.

Having also been a dedicated advocate for the British wool industry, HRH The Princess Royal, was visiting in her capacity as President of the UK Fashion and Textile Association. Britain has a proud heritage, dating back over 2,000 years, with regards to the use of wool in textiles – and British wool was prized by Roman emperors and Flemish weavers for its high quality. For hundreds of years, the British economy was shaped by wool and was in the hands of British farmers. At a time, when many of us are choosing more sustainable options regarding our purchases, the importance of wool as a natural, sustainable fibre has not diminished.
