Why we support British farmers by buying 100% British wool for our products

Every Devon Duvets product begins its story in the rolling green hills of Britain, a place where the rhythm of the land and the care of the animals shape everything we do.

The wool we use doesn’t come from faceless suppliers; it comes from British farms where animal welfare and sustainability go hand in hand. Supporting these farmers isn’t just good for the planet it’s a very real part of who we are.

Why We Choose 100% British Wool

We’ve always believed that nature knows best — and British wool proves it. The flocks that graze across our countryside produce wool that is perfectly suited to our climate: breathable in summer, insulating in winter and naturally soft and springy. Making it perfect for wool bedding.

By choosing 100% British wool, we can trace every fleece back to its source and many of the farms have been supplying us with wool from the very beginning of Devon Duvets. It’s our way of ensuring not just quality, but integrity; knowing that the wool in your duvet, mattress topper or pillow has travelled from farm to your bed with care at every step.

Ethical Farming and Animal Welfare

Animal welfare sits at the heart of everything we do. British farmers follow strict government standards, regularly inspected to ensure their sheep are well cared for. Unlike some imported wools, mulesing; a painful procedure still used elsewhere, is banned in the UK.

This means you can rest easy knowing that the wool in your bedding comes from healthy, contented sheep who roam freely across our countryside.

Supporting Local Farming Communities

Our commitment to British wool is also a commitment to people; the farmers, graders and craftspeople who keep these rural traditions alive.

Every purchase made helps to sustain British farming. We work closely with British Wool, who grade and certify every batch, ensuring quality while helping farmers receive fair value for their hard work.

Supporting them means supporting local jobs, countryside heritage and the landscapes we all love and cherish.

From Fleece to Finish - The Journey of Our Wool

After shearing in spring and summer, the wool is carefully cleaned in British mills without the use of chemicals or bleach - keeping its natural goodness intact. We believe that the use of chemicals changes the structure of the wool fibre, losing its essential properties and traceability.

Once cleaned uniquely to Devon Duvets requirements, it’s gently “needled” to create a soft, lofty texture before arriving at our Devon workshops. Here, our skilled seamstresses handcraft each duvet, mattress topper and pillow; layer by layer, stitch by stitch; just as we’ve done for over almost two decades.

Every piece carries with it the quiet pride of British craftsmanship.
