Top Tips on Preparing Your Sleep for Autumn

The nights are now noticeably drawing in and there is a distinct autumn feel in the air, causing a period of adjustment when it comes to our sleep routines. When the clocks go back, this can confuse our body clock (known as our circadian rhythm) and disrupt our sleep patterns. So, we’ve put together a few tips to help get you back into the natural rhythm of the season.

Align your sleep and wake times

Start winding down 15 – 20 minutes earlier each night until your sleep and wake times align with the season. This helps your circadian rhythm adapt more easily.

Choose natural bedding

Opt for bedding and bedlinen made with 100% natural fibres that are breathable. Wool filled soft bedding is ideal as it is naturally temperature regulating, working with your body temperature and the ambient temperature in your bedroom to create a balanced sleep environment throughout the night.  Find out more about our 100% British wool bedding range…

Create a restful bedroom

Try using soft lighting and warm-toned décor for a cosy feel. Keep your bedroom as clutter free as possible and try to avoid using TVs or devices in the bedroom, especially just before bedtime. These emit a blue light that can interfere with the production of melatonin – the sleep hormone. Create that extra special haven for rest by using aromatherapy candles or air parfums with 100% natural essential oils.

Add a layer of comfort to your mattress

If your mattress is a little on the hard side, then a wool topper will add a layer of comfort for extra cosy autumn and winter nights. As well as being temperature regulating, wool is naturally dust mite resistant and anti-bacterial, making it more hygienic as well as hypo allergenic. Our toppers are individually handcrafted in Devon, using fully traceable 100% British wool, encased in beautifully soft natural brushed cotton.

Set time aside for your bedtime routine

Getting into a restful routine before bedtime can make a big difference to not only how quickly you fall asleep but also the quality of your sleep. Relaxing in a warm bath about 30 -45 minutes before bedtime, reading a book, or sipping on a caffeine-free herbal tea can all help to prepare you for sleep.
