British Wool Duvet – Extra Warm Winter Weight 900gsm

Stay snug through the coldest nights with our Extra Warm British Wool Duvet, lovingly handcrafted in Devon. Filled with 900gsm of certified British wool and encased in soft 260 thread count cotton, this is our warmest and most insulating option. With a tog equivalent of 14+, it’s perfect for frosty winters, draughty homes, or for those who prefer sleeping with the heating off.

Why Choose the Extra Warm Duvet?

This duvet is designed for those who crave extra cosiness. Wool naturally regulates temperature, keeping you warm while releasing excess heat to help prevent night sweats. Each duvet is stitched with minimal quilting, ensuring a smooth drape and preventing cold spots. It’s warmth without compromise – and made entirely from natural, sustainable materials.

Please note: At 900gsm, this duvet feels substantial. If you prefer something lighter but still cosy in winter, we recommend our Medium Weight British Wool Duvets.

Tog Guide & Weight Comparison

Wool adapts to your body temperature, but as a guide:

  • Lightweight: 300gsm – Approx TOG 4–7
  • Medium Weight: 600gsm – Approx TOG 8–14
  • Extra Warm: 900gsm – Approx TOG 14+

This 900gsm Extra Warm duvet delivers the same insulation as combining a Lightweight and Medium Weight together – in one luxuriously thick cover.

Sustainability & Responsibility

We are proud to be the first UK bedding company accredited by British Wool, proving that 100% of our wool is British. Our fleeces are shorn in spring and summer when sheep naturally shed their coats. The cotton casing is sourced under the Better Cotton Initiative, supporting improved farming practices worldwide. Every duvet is natural, biodegradable and crafted to last – kind to you and kind to the planet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Extra Warm Wool Duvet very heavy?

Yes - at 900gsm this is a substantial duvet. Many cold sleepers love the comforting weight and extra insulation, especially in draughty homes or during frosty winters. If you prefer something lighter, we recommend our Lightweight Wool Duvets or our Medium Weight British Wool Duvet.

Who is this duvet best suited for?

This duvet is perfect for people who feel the cold easily, live in cooler homes, or like to sleep with the heating off. Cold sleepers will appreciate the cocooning warmth and weight of the 900gsm fill, which provides a tog equivalent of 14+.

Will it make me too hot?

Wool is naturally breathable and helps regulate body temperature, so although this duvet is thick and warm, it still releases excess heat. If you are a naturally warm sleeper, one of our lighter options will likely suit you better.

Is this duvet sustainable?

Yes. Every duvet is filled with 100% British wool, certified by British Wool for full traceability back to UK farms. Wool is renewable, biodegradable and responsibly shorn in spring and summer when sheep naturally need their fleeces removed. The cotton casing is sourced under the Better Cotton Initiative, and our packaging is reusable and recyclable.

How should I care for such a thick duvet?

Air regularly to keep it fresh. For deeper cleaning, machine wash on a 30ºC wool cycle using a wool-safe detergent. Use a gentle spin, reshape while damp and air dry. Do not tumble dry or dry clean.

Does it come with a guarantee?

Yes - like all Devon Duvets products, it comes with our 5-Year Makers Guarantee. Each duvet is individually handcrafted in Devon to the highest standards for long-lasting performance and comfort.

Please note that the care instructions vary, depending on your duvet type. Please be sure to use the correct instructions for your duvet.

Caring for your 100% British Wool or 100% British Alpaca Duvet

Wool and alpaca fibres have a natural resistance to dust mites and bacteria, so your wool/alpaca duvet doesn’t need frequent washing. We recommend regular airing and this helps to keep the wool/alpaca nice and fresh. This can be done outside (if the weather is dry), or draped over a clothes airer, near an open window so that air can get right round your duvet.

Should a deeper clean be required, our wool and our alpaca duvets are machine washable - and it helps to think of them as a big woolly jumper! Machine wash in a large capacity machine (so the duvet has plenty of room to move around inside) on a 30 degrees wool cycle, and using a detergent that is specifically created for wool. A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and thoroughly air dry. Do not tumble dry. We do not recommend dry cleaning as this process uses chemicals. You can find more information on caring for your duvet here.

If you need to store your duvet at any point, it is best to roll it up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in. Make sure it is stored in a dry place, away from humidity and damp. We would recommend re-airing before you use it again.

Caring for your Botanic (100% plant-based) duvet

Your Botanic duvet is made from a 100% plant based fibres containing TENCEL™Lyocell, derived from sustainable wood sources. These fibres have a resistance to dust mites and so your Botanic duvet does not require frequent washing. We do, however, recommend regular airing as this helps to keep your Botanic duvet fresh. This is best done outside if the weather is dry, or inside over an airer near an open window if the weather is damp.

For a deeper clean, your Botanic duvet can be machine washed in a large capacity machine, on a 30 degrees delicates cycle and using a gentle detergent (it is best to avoid 'biological' detergents as these can be harsh). A gentle spin to remove excess water and then remove immediately from the machine, reshape and air dry. Our Botanic duvets can be tumble dried on the lowest setting and we recommend reshaping during this process.  We do not recommend dry cleaning, due to the chemicals used in this process.

For storing, roll up and place in the cotton bag it arrived in, ensuring it is stored in a dry place away from humidity and damp. Re-air before using again.
